David Stager is interested in applying the disciplines of computer vision, machine learning, and complex autonomous systems to the field of medical robotics. He is the lead systems engineer for CHIMP, the Tartan Rescue Team’s entry in the DARPA Robotics Challenge. For the Cargo UGV project, he helped to create the infrastructure and perception system for an autonomous convoying system. Mr. Stager’s machine vision work includes a computer vision system to inspect coal mine conveyor belts. This system is in use in several active mines and saves hundreds of thousands of dollars yearly in unscheduled belt downtime. His computer vision library for classifying and sorting strawberry plants is in the process of being patented and is licensed for commercial use by many of the USA’s largest strawberry plant growers. He also played key technical leadership roles for numerous unmanned ground vehicle projects.
